REACH Legislation on handling and using Diisocyanates
New REACH product regulations coming into effect in the UK on 24th August 2023 will require all those handling and using products containing Diisocyanates to undertake mandatory training.
REACH (the European Regulation on Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) has issued new regulations that require all professional and industrial users of polyurethane adhesives and sealant products with a total monomeric diisocyanate concentration of > 0.1% to undergo training.
More information on the new legislation can be found on the website of the FECIA website https://www.feica.eu/
There is also more detail on the required training together with a code for accessing the training free of charge here https://www.feica.eu/PUinfo
Legal obligations
Both employers and the self-employed must ensure that they and their workforce complete the mandatory training, or they will no longer be allowed to work with Diisocyanates. The legal responsibility for ensuring compliance lies solely with the employer. This includes contractors installing the products on site, warehouse operatives handling packs of adhesives for despatch or shipping, and other workers handling products containing Diisocyanates.
Employers must keep a record of each employee who has completed the required training to demonstrate compliance with the new REACH restriction.
Further information on the required level of training for each user and application can be found at https://www.feica.eu/PUinfo
