How our TopLift ladder hoist actually works — And why every single-story project needs one.

Our TopLift ladder hoist has been in our fleet for over 15 years, and although there has been advances in roofing, it still requires the management of manual handling and working at height. When it comes to getting the materials onto the roof, there are many ways to do so, but using a Ladder Hoist provides a safe and efficient method. Let’s find out exactly how a Bocker TopLift Hoist works, and key details and benefits for you to use on your next job.

What are they?

A Bocker TopLift Hoist is a type of ladder hoist, made of 0.5mtr, 1mtr and 2mtr sections, they have an easy to assemble and break down sectional structure, they are ideal for installation in awkward locations or where space is limited and operate with an electric motor.

When you hire a hoist from us, you will get a dedicated hoist engineer that will come to site and set the hoist up. They do this by:

  1. Laying out the aluminium ladder sections on the ground. The sections are connected and secured bolts and wing nuts.
  2. They will then connect the platform onto the track, ensuring all wheels are properly secured.
  3. The base is then positioned ensuring it is away from the building, roughly 1/4 of the total height. The track is then lifted into a vertical position, and leant against the scaffold. Then they attach the power unit to the bottom of the ladder using the designated pins.
  4. The cable is then routed from the winch up the track, through the top pulley and back down, attaching it to the carriage.
  5. They then secure the top of the track to the scaffold handrail, check for proper cable tension, and perform a test run to ensure the platform travels up and down correctly.
  6. Our hoist engineer will then give a handover and demonstration to a site manager/site contact to show them how to successfully operate the hoist, leaving them with a handover document, weekly checklist and LOLER certification.

What can they lift?

Our TopLift hoists can lift up to 250kg and there are a number of different platform options to suit different applications.  The large fully gated platform is the most popular as it is ideal for most roofing and construction requirements. There optimal lifting height range is 3m-7.5m

Why should I use them?

Money Saver

Using a hoist on site can speed up the average time to completion on roofing projects, as fewer people are needed in comparison to other lift types. This will save the contractor money, as they will need fewer site workers

 Improved Safety

A very important and significant pro of using a Bocker TopLift hoist on site is, by reducing manual handling and providing a safe means of getting tools, materials and equipment to roof level will in turn, reduce the possibility of accidents. Accidents on site can cause major impacts on employees lives, and it is a priority to any business to put the employees lives first. Using this method of transporting goods will reduce the need of heavy lifting, and therefore make for a safer environment.

 Highly Versatile

These hoists can be used for a lot more than just lifting materials to a roof, have any Solar panels that need installing? Heavy furniture? Ballasted roof edge protection? Our TopLift will do this for you!  and the optional tipping carriage allows access to the platform without compromising edge protection.

As well as a lot more advantages; easy to assemble and break down, making them ideal for installation in awkward locations, safe working load of 250kg, quiet electric motor – can be used in confined spaces and noise sensitive environments, heights from 3m to 8m.
