First time use of SYSTEM 20SLF proves a great success

Background

West Mount is group of six 1960s built residential apartments in Guildford. HAC Roofing, the contractor, have been renewing the roofs of all 6 blocks over the last 10 years.

Challenge

The existing roof on the assigned block was an aged asphalt covered in chippings. HAC Roofing were tasked with installing a new felt roof with a robust 20-year guarantee. As the apartments were occupied, all the roofing work needed to undertaken whilst creating minimal noise and disruption to residents.

The solution

We recommended our SYSTEM 20SAF underlay and SYSTEM 20SLF mineral cap sheet for the project. As the waterproof membrane can be applied as a flame-free system it overcame the restrictions around the use of hot torch works on a residential block. Being a hot air applied system also helped reduce the likelihood of noise from the work causing disturbance for the occupants. The roof space to be replaced was also a fairly straightforward area, making it an ideal opportunity for the team to work with a system they had not used previously.

Outcome

The felting operatives worked well with the SYSTEM 20SLF despite this being their first experience of applying it. They were able to complete the installation to a high standard in 2 days less than estimated, enabling the whole project to be completed slightly ahead of schedule.  And as it was hot air applied with adhesive system, SYSTEM 20SLF achieved a mark-free surface and finish.

Having now developed a good technique for applying the SYSTEM 20SLF, the team have been able to complete these even more quickly, ensuring projects stay on or ahead of track.
