Another successful flat roof refurbishment for System THX

BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT

Hedge End Retail Park houses a mix of retail and food outlets, including a busy McDonalds with a drive through and onsite food service outlet both which are in operation 24 hours, daily.

THE CHALLENGE

The original roof on the building had reached the end of its useful life, causing water ingress.

There were also substantial amounts of ponding water on the roof, putting undue stress on the roof substructure. The roof also housed a large amount of M&E equipment, causing further risk of water ingress around the penetrations.

With the building in constant use the project needed to be completed swiftly with minimal disruption to those working in and using the outlet.

PROJECT SOLUTION

To ensure a solid base to work from all redundant M&E was removed and the debonded EPDM membranes were stripped back by the roofing contractors, Cold Applied Roofing.

Because of its superior ability to encapsulate penetrations and its ease of installation, we recommended our BBA Certified and BRoof (T4) fire rated System THX.  The System THX 4416 Epoxy Primer was used for adhering to the replacement EPDM. This was followed by a wet-on-wet PU System THX main coat with a System THX top protection coat installed to provide extra UV protection.

We also supplied new rainwater outlets which were installed to improve drainage and reduce the risk of ponding in future.

THE OUTCOME

The project was completed on time, thanks to the rapid application benefits of System THX, including wet-on-wet application, the requirement for minimal mixing and the ability to apply it to vertical surfaces and upstands without slumping. And with the combined use of System THX and System THX+ top coat we were able to provide a Lancastria 20-year guarantee, for added peace of mind.
