BACKGROUND TO THE PROJECT

Positioned high on the Pennines, the water treatment works experiences the entire range of weather conditions across the year. As a working plant it is in operation 24 hours, every day.

THE CHALLENGE

The original roof had a concrete deck with a felt system that had reached the end of its useful life, causing water ingress, and substantial amounts of ponding in places across the roof.

The extensive roof comprised several different areas with some housing large in-roof structures, creating further risk of water ingress around their penetrations.

With the water treatment works in constant use and the need to ensure the roof refurbishment had no impact on the quality and security of the water output, the project needed to be completed swiftly and to the highest standard.

PROJECT SOLUTION

To ensure a solid base to work from all the previous membrane was removed and the roof stripped back by to the concrete deck by the contractors, Blade Roofing.

We recommended our two-layer BBA Certified System Endura for the refurbishment. With its excellent elasticity and workability, combined with its -15 degree C cold flexibility it is ideal for use on roofs exposed to the extremes of weather.

A protection layer of 6mm Endura Board was applied across the roof expanse. As well as providing excellent insulation Endura Board is finished with a PE film on the top side, creating strong adhesion for the initial 3mm System Endura layer.

To provide additional protection and ensure the required fire retardancy, our BROOF (t4) rated System Endura FR membrane was applied as a 4mm cap sheet.

THE OUTCOME

The project was completed on time, providing the plant with a high quality, fire rated watertight refurbished roof that will withstand all the extremes of the Yorkshire weather. With the right products in place and the work completed to Blade Roofing’s high standard, we were able to provide a Lancastria 20-year guarantee, for added peace of mind.
