Background

West Tofts Camp is a large MOD (Ministry of Defence) training estates camp located north of Thetford, Norfolk. The project, which involved the refurbishment of the roofs on several buildings on the site, was undertaken by Cambridge Roofers Ltd.

The challenge

The refurbishment involved a number of smaller scale but technical roofs requiring the highest quality workmanship and the right choice of materials to meet the project specification. The Camp was also in operation throughout the refurbishment, meaning the work needed to be completed with minimal disruption.

The solution

Cambridge Roofers elected to use our Lancastria 20-year System Endura BBA as the core waterproofing system to refurbish the roofs.

They firstly used the torch-on System Endura 3mm BBA as a vapour control layer, alongside our System 20SAF Self Adhesive vapour control layer in flame-free areas. Both were primed with our Self-Adhesive Primer, which is available as both roller applied or spray applied depending on the size of the area involved.

To ensure compliance with Building Regulations, 130mm PIR insulation was applied along with 50mm insulation where a thermal upgrade was required, all adhered with Lancastria Insulation Adhesive. Our System Endura 3mm BBA was then used as an underlay and finished off with the System Endura 4.5kg Charcoal 7.5m BBA cap sheet.

As well as the various adhesives and primers, we also supplied all the roof trims, drip formers and tilt fillets required to complete the project.

The outcome

The refurbishment went to time and to plan. The Camp was also able to keep fully operational during the refurbishment, meeting one of their key criteria. On completion of the works, we provided a 20-year Endura Guarantee, providing the MOD with long term assurance for the roofs.
