Böcker hoists help Everlast Roofing keep flat roof refurbishment project on track

Background
Riverdale Apartments are a collection of residential apartment buildings, all with flat roofs. Located on the side of a hill, with uneven ground conditions and varying roof levels of between 1 and 5 storeys, this was a complex site. Following issues with the various roof areas, the property owner had contracted Everlast Waterproofing to undertake the necessary repairs across the whole site. This was a large scale job that also needed to be completed as swifly as possible to minimise disruption to the residents.

The challenge
The location of the Riverdale Apartments on a hill and with uneven ground made erecting scaffolding across the site a challenge for Everlast Scaffolding. The multiple roof areas, some of which were only accessible from other roofs, and the variety of roof heights made this a complex operation. Moving materials to and from each area, safely and efficiently, whilst minimising the impact on residents was a key priority.

Given the complexity of the buildings and site, and the scale of the work involved, Everlast approached Lancastria to support them with ensuring safe and efficient access to all the buldings and difficult to reach roof areas.

The solution
Our expert team undertook several site visits to assist with the scaffolding requirements, identify the types of hoists needed to address the multi-level roof issue and ensure there was sufficient access and ground area for the hoists to be installed safely.

Having reviewed the site, we recommended a range of Böcker hoists as the best solution for the challenge. We supplied ten hoists in total – 4 Böcker Simply models, 2 Böcker Junior hoists and 4 Böcker Toplift ladder hoists.

The hoist range was selected to meet the specific site needs in terms of ground space and access, as well as ensuring each hoist’s lifting height was aligned with the various building storeys.

With the Böcker Toplift being a sectional ladder hoist it could be dismantled into sections for easy transportation, making the Toplift ideal for providing working access to the roofs that could only be accessed from other roof areas. And with our Lancastria team using the Simply hoist to transport the section to the relevant roof area for installation, the whole process was made hassle-free for the Everlast team.

All the supplied hoists have a payload of 250kg, making them ideal for rolls of felt, liquid coating and insulation. And the ease of loading and offloading materials was a major benefit given the scale of the materials needed for the work.

The outcome
Everlast Waterproofing have been delighted with the return on investment delivered by the Böcker hoists. Having the fleet across the site has helped speed up the work and resolved any material handling issues that would have arisen from alternative solutions. Not only has this ensured the work has kept to schedule but also helped keep any disruption to the residents in line with expectations.

This has been a long-term project, running from September 2022 into summer 2023. Given the longevity of the work we have supported the hoists with regular maintenance to ensure they continue to operate continuously and the team can continue to work to schedule.
